Om Sri Adi Da

The words of this chant may be easily adapted for use at any time by replacing “Purnima” with “Avatar”, allowing the chant to be sung more universally across a variety of devotional occasions.

Da Purnima

“Purnima” means “full” and refers to the full moon. Each full moon, or Purnima, is traditionally a celebration of the Spiritual Teacher. However, the full moon occurring during the Hindu month of Ashad—usually spanning part of June and July—is known as “Guru Purnima” and is regarded in the Hindu tradition as the brightest and most auspicious full moon of the year. Within the annual cycle, this sacred day is set apart for remembering the Guru, or Divine Teacher, and for offering homage, devotion, and worship to His or Her appearance in human form.
