Adi Da Bhagavan Da Purnima

This chant was originally written for Da Purnima; however, the words in lines 3 and 4 may also be adapted to “Sri Adi Da”, “Da Avatar”, or “Lord Adi Da” as appropriate to the occasion or setting. Please note that the drone should be maintained as a continuous pedal note throughout, as it provides the harmonic foundation necessary for the chords to resonate correctly.

Da Purnima

“Purnima” means “full” and refers to the full moon. Each full moon, or Purnima, is traditionally a celebration of the Spiritual Teacher. However, the full moon occurring during the Hindu month of Ashad—usually spanning part of June and July—is known as “Guru Purnima” and is regarded in the Hindu tradition as the brightest and most auspicious full moon of the year. Within the annual cycle, this sacred day is set apart for remembering the Guru, or Divine Teacher, and for offering homage, devotion, and worship to His or Her appearance in human form.
